Keeping romance alive can be tricky in relationships, but it is important to make the time to connect with your significant other. For many, going on lavish dates every week simply isn’t feasible, but luckily having a fun time together doesn’t have to be a bank breaker! Here are five fun, inexpensive date ideas for you and your special someone.
1. DIY Dinner and a Movie
The dinner and a movie date is a classic, and for good reason. Who doesn’t love sharing some food and entertainment? Movie theaters can be pretty price-gouging, however, and restaurants aren’t exactly cheap, so that’s where the DIY comes in!
There are plenty of free movies available online, but you can also find loads of discount DVDs. If you have Netflix or Hulu, browse their selections. Don’t be afraid to choose something cheesy – somethings the worst movies are the most hilarious!
Crafting a frugal but satisfying meal doesn’t have to be difficult, either. Most pasta dishes contain inexpensive, quickly prepared ingredients while still retaining an air of sophistication. Throw in some chicken, veggies, and toast some bread and you’ve got it made!
2. Game Night
Too often people forget just how much humans bond through fun and games. We’re social beings, and we need to engage that part of ourselves, especially with significant others or those we’re trying to get to know better!
Together come up with a couple of games that sound engaging and entertaining. Whether it’s something electronic like a few rounds of a racing game, or something more hands-on like Jenga or a teamwork building board game. There’s something out there for everyone, whether you’re looking for something to spark a conversation or keep things lighthearted and airy.
Don’t forget snacks, too! Grab some popcorn, chips, and some fizzy drinks to keep the atmosphere fun.
If you have a sense of adventure and access to a smartphone with a GPS, geocaching may be right up your alley. Geocaching is an outdoor activity and involves using your mobile device or GPS to track down hidden treasures, called “geocaches” or “caches”, at specific locations all over the world. In other words, it’s a real-life treasure hunt!
You can seek or even hide your own treasures, and there are probably many caches hidden in your area already just waiting to be discovered. Dress comfy, pack some snacks, and embrace your inner adventurer alongside your date.
4. Explore Thrift Stores
Thrift stores are some of the most underrated cool places around. You never know just what you’re going to find there, and that combined with the discounted goods makes it a whole lot of fun!
Exploring a thrift store or Goodwill with your date can be an engaging, conversation-spurring experience. Mess around with picking out some outrageous outfits for each other, or even finding something you actually like!
Don’t overlook the knick-knack and home goods sections of thrift stores, either. You can find some amazing antiques, hilarious artwork, and fascinating oddities that are all fun to share and discuss with that special someone.
5. Parks, Picnics, and Stargazing
These are all pretty interconnected, and you can mix and match your park going experience to fit into you and your date’s availability and interests. The majority of public parks are entirely free to access and provide a scenic, casual atmosphere to enjoy.
Picnics may seem a little old-fashioned, but there’s a reason they’re a staple! Packing some sandwiches, snacks, and drinks is relatively inexpensive, and sitting out on a blanket or at a table in the sun is both relaxing and fun.
If you’re headed out later in the day, find a nice vantage point to watch the sunset and then lay back to watch the stars come out. The natural beauty always makes things feel more special and intimate. Setting the scene with some drinks and travel pillows adds a nice touch, and you can either enjoy the quiet or engage in some inspired conversation with your partner.15 comments
