Holidaying and overindulging tend to go hand in hand. Consequently, if you’ve been working hard to create fitness habits and you don’t want to fall out of them you might feel stuck on what to do. Spending the entire holiday cooped up in your hotel’s gym isn’t exactly the ideal way to spend your vacation, and overindulging would make you feel guilty. Luckily there are plenty of ways to find a balance between keeping your habits and enjoying your holiday.
1. Work your gluts, skip the elevator
If you are staying in a hotel, chances are that you will not be staying on the ground floor. Which is great, because the best way to get your leg and gluts working while on holiday is to take the stairs instead of the elevator. Your legs might burn the first couple times going up, but you won’t feel the slightest bit guilty about treating yourself to the local delicacies, and that’s worth every step.
2. Self-serving transportation
Being on holiday is a great time to discover a new city, but how much of the city do you really get to see if you are underground riding in the subway or zipping around in an uber? If the city you’re staying in is small, why not walk instead? If it’s a bit larger, rent bikes for your mode of transport on your holiday. Staying above ground and outside of cars is a great way to not only see more of the city but get exercise without even noticing.
3. Active Activities
Filling your daily plan with activities that get your body moving is a great way to add in a little fitness to your day. Maybe the city you are visiting has a panoramic lookout point from the highest spot in the city that you can hike too. If there is a sea ocean or lake in the city, instead of just laying near it soaking up the sun, why not get into the water? You can swim, or even rent a kayak. Even if you are in an urban environment most large cities with rivers running through them offer paddle boarding and kayaking. It’s a great way to see the city from a new angle while staying active.
4. Run
Going for a morning run is a great way to stay fit while seeing the city you are staying in. You will discover the cities hidden gems before all the hustle and bustle of the day begins. Set a destination for yourself each morning that you want to run to. You’ll be keeping your fitness habits, and navigating the city like a local by the end of your stay.
5. Hotel room morning workout
If all else fails, you can always do bodyweight training poolside or on the beach while your travel mates are lounging. There are tons of great workouts that will get your heart pumping and your body sweating without any use of equipment. The best part? You can jump into the pool for your cool down.
