Top 3 Worst Lessons You Can Learn From A Disney Movie

Disney cartoons and animations are gorgeous, beautiful and carry many meaningful lessons. Many of us grew up watching cartoon-like Snow White, Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella and it’s safe to say that we have learned a thing or two from those Disney movies.

But are all the lessons coming from Disney movies good? Let’s find out some of the worst lessons you can learn from a Disney Movie.

1. Step-moms Are Evil

Step-moms in a Disney movie is usually the main villain. From the step-moms in Snow White and Cinderella to the wicked mother in Enchanted. They are all vile and always go after the main protagonists for one reason or another. And we can understand it. Stepmothers see the child of their husband as an obstacle in their way. Since they don’t share the same blood it’s hard to harbor any love or care.

That’s not a very good lesson to teach kids, however. In real life, many step-moms try as hard as they can to take care of and love the children of their husband. There are those that don’t like their children of their spouse too, but even without love, they usually don’t actively go after the children’s throat. Kids can get the wrong idea and resent their step-mother if they get too into it.

2. Bad Guys Are Ugly While Good Guys Look Great

In many Disney movies, you can often tell which character a villain is, and which is a protagonist. The guy with neat attire, a handsome face, and funny attitude is your typical good guy – can be either a protagonist or a friend of them who helps them along the way.

The villains, however, are made to look ugly. They wear hideous clothing, has a feature that makes them stand out like a sore thumb and an evil laugh or smile. It’s so obvious sometimes.

Of course, there’s Beauty and the Beast or Frozen where the hideous looking one is actually a good character while a nice looking one is a villain, but those are exceptions rather than norms.

It’s a pretty bad lesson to teach kids because it tells them to judge people by appearance. It can be especially bad for kids and teenagers, who are still developing their personalities.

3. Marriage Is The End Goal

How many Disney movies end up with the main protagonist marrying their lovers? Probably more than you can count.

It’s a great way to end a movie of course since it gives a nice conclusion to the story. But in real life, a marriage not the end; rather, it’s the start of a new journey. We often don’t get to see the after story of a Disney marriage. The marriage ends with the ceremony, with flowers, cheers from the crowd, happy smiles and faces, and a kiss.

But what about the living together part after that? What about sharing hardship and getting to know, understand and adapt to each other lifestyle?

None of that is shown, and kids always dream about a grand and glamorous Disney wedding ceremony. They don’t know or think about what lies ahead of them, and that’s rather dangerous.
