Only the most gifted and accomplished students are accepted to Harvard – they are the 1% of the entire world. There is no doubt that these talented people will flourish and try their hardest to live up to the name of Harvard. But have you ever wondered if they also struggle while they are studying there, just like how we all have classes that we can’t help but despise during our time at the college?

Today, we will be looking at the 4 hardest classes that even Harvard students will have a tough time getting through.

1. Physics 16

Physics 16 – where students learn about mechanics and special relativity is the hardest class any aspiring physicist has to go through at Harvard. This course is rated as very difficult by 85% of former students and many claimed that you should plan to spend at least 11 hours outside of classwork each week if you want to survive this class. However, all that hard work isn’t for nothing, as it’s one of the best ways for you to grow and develop. 93% of graduates recommended this class as the best way to learn about mechanics in general.

2. Social Studies – Introduction to Social Studies

You’d be surprised to learn that classes from non-STEM majors are also a tough barrier to breakthrough at Harvard. This introductory class to social study is described by many as a monster of humanity study. Sitting at a 76% rating as very difficult, it is a relatively hard class to go through. For those who are well-versed in history and social study in general, this class will require at least 10 hours of additional work outside of class. If you aren’t a historical buff, then you’re probably looking at 20 hours of additional study.

3. Economics: Quantitative Methods in Economics

Economic major is considered one of the most well-paid majors among Harvard graduates, with many earning 6 figures straight after their graduation. As such, economic students are expected to suffer during their time at Harvard. With this class, any economic student should be looking at around 7 to 12 hours of additional work outside of class studying statistical theory and parameters. It’s also a really tough class to go through with an average score of 3.06 out of 5.00 in a department where the average score is sitting at a comfortable 4.12.

4. Chemistry: Statistical Thermodynamics

I don’t know about you, but the name of this course is already intimidating enough to scare me away forever. Similar to other classes that make it on this list, you are looking at no less than 10 hours of additional work outside of class. On top of the monstrous workload, it also has an exceptionally low guide score of 1.29 out of 5.00. It is a really tough class, so tough in fact, that 95% of students who went through it did not recommend the course. It is beyond terrifying and is not for those with a weak heart.
