Most people expect to be wined and dined on a first date, but if you just do what everybody else does it is more difficult to make a lasting first impression. Here’s a list of seven things you can do on a first date that will not only be memorable but might just land you the partner of your dreams too.
1. Go Walking
It’s healthy, and if you choose the right route can be very romantic too. Why not offer your date a gentle stroll instead of dinner? Going for a walk is one of the best ways to get to know someone, after all. And if the date goes well, there’s always the option of walking in the general direction of a bar for a drink.
2. Museums and Galleries
There’s no better way to discover if your prospective partner is on the same intellectual wavelength as you than to take advantage of any museums or galleries in your area. Most institutions will have special exhibits scheduled any given month. If you really want to impress, you can brush up on the subject beforehand so that you have plenty to talk about.
3. Concerts and Gigs
This one is hardly an alternative but still might suit a lot of people more than trying to mind your manners at a fancy restaurant. Small gigs are a good way to find out if your date is into the same sounds as you while securing tickets to a top-line act that you know they like will definitely make a mark.
OK, probably not the most romantic option here, but if you’re looking for a partner who is serious about certain issues you could always try going to a demonstration or even a protest. It’s probably best to go for this option only if you already know your date is passionate about the issue, however. Also, try to ensure that the demonstration is peaceful.
What better way is there to show off your fun-loving side to a paramour-in waiting than the funfair? More to the point, you will find a few easier ways to determine how fun-loving and spontaneous they are. Plus there is cotton candy, always sure to get you in the good books.
6. A Picnic
A cheap and fun alternative to a restaurant, picnics also allow you to showcase your spontaneity and skill at preparing food. Choose a nice location and, if the weather holds, your luck just might too.
7. Boat Rides
This is a favorite of romantics everywhere, and with good reason. Nothing beats a leisurely trip in a pedal-boat on a quiet lake or river. Of course, the weather is a big factor here too, and you also have to take water safety into account. If you’re not the rowing or pedaling kind, you can always try to find companies that organize river or lake cruises.
While any these ideas would be a nice break from the routine of bars or restaurants, it’s up to you to make it work. Good luck!
